There are three main points that are troubling concerning the plane crash: 1. Pilot refused and ignored command to land in route at the capital of Belarus. 2. Airport at of the crash at Smolensk was a military airport not in constant for 30 years and lacked any support to aid in landing. 3. The plane was a TP154 which had a history of accidents dating back to 1975. It is also questionable whether the plane had proper navigational equipment for the conditions.
The plane which was carrying the Polish delegation in their last trip was a popular Soviet-era model Tupolev-154. This particular aircraft had been used by different Polish leaders for nearly 20 years, and has been recently fully renovated. RT investigates the history of that plane and its safety record.
